Baichung Bhutia has always been the sports icon for the young footballers of the country. As soon as he was honoured with the Hall of Fame award from Asian Football Federation (AFC), he expressed his emotions for the sports he had since his childhood. Although a bit depressed with the dwindling FIFA Ranking of Indian Football, Bhutia is hopeful that good times will be back for the sports in the country. Bhutia surely does not want to take the whole credit of his success as he dedicated his award to the coaches and the players who are struggling every day to take Indian Football to greater heights.

It is an unfortunate fact that India’s FIFA ranking has plummeted to 170 which is a sharp drop by 11 positions, but AIFF President Praful Patel is motivating AIFF in the most dynamic way so that the sport can become even more popular in the country. Patel has specifically insisted on the fact that more and more foreign coaches should be introduced in the team so that a certain amount of professionalism and disciplines are infused among the boys. Out of all the competitive tournaments, Baichung Bhutia still remains to be the face of Indian Football. FIFA President Sepp Blatter is one of the most honourable guests of the award event of AFC.

According to Bhutia, Indian Super League (ISL) is having a remarkable impact on Indian Football as it is not only creating a substantial fan base but it is also making the kids take high interest in the game. As he mentioned that the participation of the football stars like Alessandro Del Pierro and Nicolas Anelka is changing the course of the game. But he further insisted that ISL clubs must participate actively in the I-League. Praful Patel profile has been quite vital in the development of the game in the country. Patel although has supported ISL wholeheartedly but he made it specific that I-League will always remain the mainstay and principal league of the country.
