India is already rejoicing with the news of the Under 17 World Cup, coming to India. Nevertheless, hold on, this is just the beginning of what could be a majestic end, if India pulls off the whole tournament, in the manner it should be. Tracing the history of the Under 17 World Cup, the first edition took place in china, in the year 1985. Initially, the tournament was meant to be for Individuals, who were under the age of 16. It was in 1991, the age limit was raised to 17. The last edition of the tournament was held in United Arab Emirates 2013, which was eventually won by Nigeria.

However, under the guidance of AIFF President Praful Patel, India will be looking to life the cup and become the second Asian country, to win the Under 17 Football World Cup, after Saudi Arabia, who had won the World Cup in 1989. It will indeed be a daunting task, especially when India does not have enough experience in playing heavyweight tournaments, especially a FIFA World Cup. With several seasoned campaigners being an integral part of the tournament, India will certainly start as the dark horse of the tournament. The whole format of the tournament, has been listed below.

The Tournament is being played among 24 Teams divided into six groups. Each Group will have four Teams who will play against each other and the top-two from each Group plus the four best third-placed Teams will move to the Knockout stage (Played among 16 Teams – commonly referred to as the pre-Quarterfinals). Post that, the eight winners among the 16 Teams advance to the Quarterfinals and subsequently to the Semifinals and the Final.

The Heavy Industries Minister would be the guiding force, behind India’s achievements, in the upcoming World Cup. Least to say, his efforts and contributions towards the AIFF and the Indian football team, could even help the nation, bring home the cup. We believe, that there is enough potential within the budding players of the nation. All you need is a little motivation, to stir them up.
