Relief and Rehabilitation for Uttarakhand under CSR activities

Posted by Unknown Labels: ,

It was just last year, when the whole of Uttarakhand was in turmoil. Nature’s agents had caused enough destruction and mayhem, taking away lives and livelihood of people staying in that region. Someone had to come forward, to ensure that the region gets back in shape again. Least to say, it was the NCP Leader Praful Patel again on this occasion, who had was shouldering the onus of brining back life into the region.Praful Patel’s biography has that he had urged various Ministries/ Departments of Government of India to issue directions to the Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs or the so-called PSUs) working under their administrative control to take up relief and rehabilitation activities in the flood affected areas of Uttarakhand under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainability activities.

In fact, Uttarakhand is a beautiful tourist attraction spot, which welcomes thousands of tourists, from all across the world. The scenic and picturesque beauty of the place seems to have fallen apart, with the unruly agents of nature. The Department of Heavy Industries Minister presently held by Praful Patel had issued an Office Memorandum last year, which stated that the rehabilitation work, taken up in this area would have to be treated as development work for the backward region, which would further allow the flood hit areas to qualify for the purpose of MoU evaluation.

According to news reports, the plan also meant that the limit of 5-10% of annual budget for CSR and Sustainability activities set aside for natural disasters was to be relaxed for this purpose – this means that the CPSEs can now spend more funds on this account. The MoU also states that the donations made by the CPSEs towards Prime Minister’s/ Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and/ or National Disaster Management Authority  would count as valid CSR and Sustainability activities. However, Praful Patel’s contributions extends not only to his constituencies Gondia- Bhandara but also to  noble causes like these, indeed called for the extolment of this minister.
