Some of the important senior leaders of Goa NCP have resigned in mass as their sign of protest against the appointment of the new State unit President. This has prompted the party high command to put the selection on hold. The local unit’s three vice presidents and general secretaries each, head of OBC cell and district level office bearers yesterday have submitted their resignations from the very core membership. It has been after few hours NCP President Sharad Pawar named Suhas Volvoikar as the State party chief.

No one accepted the appointment of the new appointee as they think they are bringing disgrace to the party which was part of the previous Congress led ruling coalition. The Goa NCP was without a chief after stepping down of Minister Nilkant Halarnkar in the last month. A special damage control exercise has been initatied by the national leadershio of the party. Minister Praful Patel has put Volvoikar’s appointment on hold and has commenced talks with the faction opposing his selection.

The common resignation letter signed by the 17 functionaries said, “The decision of appointing Adv Suhas Volvoikar as the Goa unit President has come as a disgrace to the party. He has never worked for the party or known to the people of Goa. His credentials are in serious doubts, which will be clear to everyone in the days to come.” According to one of the functionaries Jose Philip D’Souza, senior Vice President, told reporters today that Patel spoke to him on phone and said Volvoikar’s appointment is being withheld. "We want someone from the existing executive committee to be appointed as President. Volvoikar is an outsider," said D'Souza, a former Revenue Minister. Evidently NCP Goa has no declared and an official MLA.
