Grassroots Session paves newer heights in Indian Football

Grassroots Football is one of the remarkable initiatives taken by All India Football Federation (AIFF) in order to popularize football from the very core and elementary level. This program has been designed for the boys and girls between 6-12 years of age. This is a unique exercise which has proved simple, fun and easy to grasp for the children. These programmes have already been conducted in different pockets of India and have received overwhelming response from the young children and their parents. 

This initiative provides the children an easy access to football in safe, enjoyable and positive environment. Grassroots Programme is a good way to introduction of football to every child and ensuring that the child enjoy the football. This will also help the child in continuing to participate in the sport in the long run. Praful Patel profile as the AIFF President has been one of the crucial factors which have enabled the federation to propagate this session in a widespread manner in India. 

FIFA has defined Grassroots Football as “To allow football to be discovered by as many people as possible.” In India there are certain objectives towards the implantation of the Grassroots football. These objectives are as follow:

  • To attract young and aspiring players to the sport, allowing access to football in a child’s own comfort
  • Football is for all irrespective of color, sex, religion and nationality
  • Grassroots Program’s main target is the children from age group of 6 – 12 years through school, colleges and community initiatives
  • To ensure overall development of a child, which should be the priority before winning or losing
  • Comprising small sided games and age specific activities
  • Football is fun and so creating an enjoyable experience for the kids
  • Football is an all-pervasive game and can be played anywhere and everywhere
  • Football should be made value oriented and should infuse a strong sense of discipline among the children.
