Mohun Bagan defeats East Bengal by 1-0

The arch rivalry of Mohun Bagan and East Bengal continues through ages. This I-League it has been a neck to neck fight amongst all the teams participating in the tournament. Mohun Bagan, since the beginning of the tournament has been a table topper in the tournament. Going on with their dream of unbeaten run Mohun Bagan posted a 1-0 victory against their eternal rival East Bengal. With this win the team has consolidated their victory escalating their position to the top of the standings in the I-League at the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan. 

Fresh and young goalkeeper Debjit Majumdar created all the difference with his most extraordinary performances with as many as half a dozen stunning saves to earn a second successive Man of the Match award before the a 50, 000 odd crowd. It was on the 47th minute when Balwant Singh was trying to get on board while Katsumi Yusa cut crossed to give green and maroon brigade their first I-League derby win since November 20, 2011 when they won by an identical margin.

AIFF President Praful President had already declared that although Indian Super League (ISL) is taking a great pace among the hearts of the football, the I-League will always remain the mainstay sport of the country. He further emphasized that the All India Football Federation (AIFF) should take up a more professionalized approach and a good marketing policy. 

Praful Patel is surely an integral aspect for popularizing the sport in the country. The tournament had no sponsor when it was initiated in 2007 disbanding National Football League (NFL). But today with Hero MotoCorp as the official sponsor the tournament has gained sufficient exposure and publicity this year. The football experts and coaches from all across the nation have stressed on adopting a strategized marketing and public relation policy in order to make I-League a tournament of ISL stature. It has been further suggested that IMG – Reliance should be pulled to form a dynamic policy for a strategized marketing for the tournament.
