Indian Women take on Sri Lanka on Olympics Qualifiers

The Indian Women’s Senior National Team is about to take on Sri Lanka in their inaugural encounter of Women’s Olympics Qualifiers Round 1. The match has been scheduled on March 13, 2015 at the Mandalar Thiri Sports Stadium. The Indian Women arrived at the venue country five days prior to their opening match to adopt themselves and acclimatize to scorching weather conditions.
Sri Lanka lost their opening match of the Tournament against Myanmar by 16 – 0. Head Coach Sajid Dar feels that the Indian Eves must not take their opponents lightly. According to Dar, the team should not get complacent against Sri Lanka. The team is a professional one and should not be undermined. According to the Head Coach, the game of football is unpredictable and anything can happen. He stressed that it becomes a responsibility on the team’s part to work even harder if they win.
AIFF President Praful Patel is one man who has a proactive role behind the success of the women’s team in the sports. The development of Women’s Football will also determine the all-pervasive development of the Indian Football. In this regard, one of the most senior members of the National Team, Oinam Bembem Devi, echoed what Dar dissected and expressed. She said that the team of Sri Lanka is in a good form and they will be looking to play for pride in their second match against India. This, according to her is a definitely a difficult fixture for the team to crack. She stressed on the team spirit and should work as a single unit. The Indian ladies will face Myanmar in their second encounter of Women’s Olympic Qualifier on March 15, 2015.

The signing of Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) with Japan Football Federation has been a great initiative for the Indian Football to initiate best practices in the team and to exchange ideas and knowhow for the team.
