The Santosh trophy football tournament, one of the oldest and famous regional competitions is all set to begin with its final phase today. The All India Football Federation has taken several measures for the development of the sport in the country and bringing regional tournaments to the forefront.  The Santosh trophy is one of the highly prestigious football tournaments in the country and today the final phase is all set to kick off in Nagpur. 

As the President of the All India Football Federation minister Praful Patel has taken several important measures for the promotion of the sport in the country. The ten best Teams who emerged from the zonal phase have been divided into two Groups with each Team playing all other Teams from the Group once. The top two from each group will advance to the semi finals. 

While Group A consists of Services, Mizoram, Jammu and Kashmir, Railways and Maharashtra; Group B consists of Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Assam, West Bengal and Goa. The entire action in the football tournament will be quite exciting as all the players are keyed up to prove their worth with a memorable performance. 

Under the Praful Patel biography, Indian football has progressed considerably with the induction of premier competitions like the ISL and I-League. It is a golden opportunity for these players to prove themselves and come out with flying colours in the tournament. With the U-17 World Cup tournament and other major competitions to be held in the country, it remains to be seen how the teams perform in this prestigious tournament.
